DPJ President Ozawa Announces Another 11 Names Added to the Official Lower House Election Candidates List

At a press conference at party headquarters on the evening of November 19, DPJ President Ichiro Ozawa announced new additions to the second list of official party candidate for the next House of Representatives election (see link below for a download in Japanese). The DPJ now has a total of 282 candidates including 234 officially endorsed candidates, 26 provisionally endorsed candidates and 22 recommended candidates.

Ozawa said, "I would like to let you all know that we have added some additional names to our second list of candidates for the general election. He added, "We will be announcing further names in the not too distant future".

Election Campaign Committee Chair Hirotaka Akamatsu announced the list of 11 officially approved candidates and one provisionally approved candidate and confirmed that the party intended to announce additional individual candidates for constituencies in Chiba Prefecture, Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture in the near future.

He noted that there were around 10 constituencies that are without a DPJ approved or recommended candidate for various reasons including ongoing debate over how candidates should be allocated. He told the press that "our original intention was never to put up a candidate in every single constituency. Our basic stance is to add additional official candidates who we feel have a solid chance of winning or putting up a good fight".
