New TV Commercial "The Responsibility of Politics" Targeted at Lower House Election Announced

At a press conference at party headquarters on the afternoon of November 21, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Hatoyama announced the release of a new TV commercial, "The Responsibility of Politics," targeted at the dissolution of the House of Representatives and a general election. (see link below for the new commercial)The new commercial started to air nationwide on November 22.

Hatoyama explained once again, "We have been pressing that the [Aso] cabinet ought to go through election [for its legitimacy], and we will stick to that." He declared that as opposed to the Aso government, the DPJ has acted in recognition that politics is of course all about improving the lives of citizens: "Putting people's lives first" and "Politics is about people's lives." Hatoyama disclosed that some of DPJ President Ozawa's work of walking in every part of the country and listening to people in-person was used to make the commercial. He added, "Knowing that we are the party that can reliably carry out the responsibility of politics, we are moving to accomplish a change in government. We want people to feel that enthusiasm."

The new commercial portrays the DPJ as being able to carry out "The Responsibility of Politics," while the LDP-New Komeito ruling coalition, despite being confronted with an unprecedented crisis in the world economy, is still not taking people's lives into consideration, raising fears that politics will continue being unable to function.
