Chinese delegation pays a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hatoyama
|
On November 11, the Chinese Communist Party delegation led by International Department Minister Wang Jiarui, in town to participate in the 3rd meeting of the “(Japan-China) Exchange and Discussion Mechanism”, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister (and DPJ President) Yukio Hatoyama.
Hatoyama welcomed Wang and the other members of the delegation, and expressed the wish that exchanges between the two parties would be further deepened. He also commented, “The Japanese people have high hopes of a change of government. I would like to implement a mode of government that values the opinions of the people.”
Wang said that this meeting of the Exchange and Discussion Mechanism was the first to take place since the 2nd meeting was convened two years ago, and added that the current meeting had been scheduled for the beginning of this year, but that “I heard [from Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa] that he would like to win the general election and engage in party-to-party exchanges from the position of the ruling party in Japan, so we waited until this autumn.” He went on to comment on the meeting currently taking place, saying that following the realisation of a change of government, “This meeting of the Exchange and Discussion Mechanism is one in which a truly large number of new fresh-faced Diet members are taking part, and they are filled with inspiration.”
Hatoyama expressed the desire to create a future-orientated Japan-China relationship. He added he was convinced of Japan’s technical ability in the area of global-warming countermeasures, and expressed the opinion that if Japan were to actively cooperate with China’s global-warming countermeasures this would contribute to the development of the bilateral relationship.
