Ozawa visits Sanin Kaigan Geopark

On May 19, DPJ Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa visited Iwami Town in Shimane Prefecture, and toured Sanin Kaigan Geopark by boat.

Following his visit, Ozawa commented to reporters: “When we think of Shimane Prefecture, the Tottori Sand dunes come to mind as an extremely famous attraction, but I recently heard about the Geopark, and thought that I would like to see it for myself, and so I made this visit today.” Asked for his impressions of the visit, he responded: “The sea was even clearer than I had imagined it would be, and the scenery was beautiful.”

Ozawa went on to comment on the Sanin Kaigan Geopark’s bid to be the fourth from Japan to join UNESCO's Global Geopark’s Network in October of this year, saying, “The local community is eager for the park to become a member, and so I would like to provide them with as much assistance as I can.” He said that his tour of the Geopark had been a fascinating experience.
