Party declaration on polling day
|
On July 11, the DPJ issued the following declaration:
People of Japan, today sees polling for a vital election which calls on you to decide whether you would like to see further progress with the mode of governance for “Putting People’s Lives First” that was launched with the change of government last year, or to return to the old-style mode of governance. We ask you to be sure to make your way to the polling booth and cast your vote.
Last summer, an historic change of government was realized thanks to the strong desire of many Japanese to change Japan. Through the power vested in us by the people, the Democratic Party of Japan has realized radical reforms that could definitely never have been achieved by past governments, such as the budget review process, the child allowance, de facto free high school tuition, and enhancement of medical care.
We apologise wholeheartedly for the fact that we have not yet been fully able to respond to your expectations, and for having invited confusion and distrust through politics and money scandals, the issue of Futemna, and the route to be taken toward reform of the tax system.
The Democratic Party of Japan will make every effort to realise the mode of governance of “Putting People’s Lives First” which is the origin of our promises to the Japanese people. We will eliminate wasteful use of tax money, and use the national budget for childrearing, medical care, nursing care, and pensions to create a society where you can all live securely.
In order to achieve this, the ruling parties must at all costs secure a majority of the seats in the House of Councillors, and create a stable and responsible political foundation. If we allow Japan’s clock to be turned back, the old-style politics of survival of the fittest, widening disparities, employment uncertainties, vanishing pensions, and bureaucratic control will end up being resurrected. Everything hinges on your all-important votes.
The Democratic Party of Japan will realise “a strong economy, robust public finances and a strong social security system” in an integrated manner, and restore vitality to Japan. Please lend your strength to the DPJ and the ruling parties to enable us to gain victory in the House of Councillors election. We ask you for your generous support.
