Cambodian parliamentarian delegation pays courtesy call


On August 24, the Chair of the DPJ’s Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League, member of the House of Representatives Tsuyoshi Saito and other DPJ Diet members welcomed members of a non-partisan Cambodian parliamentary delegation to party headquarters and held discussions. The meeting was also attended by Vice Director-General of the International Department Yukiko Miyake, member of the House of Councillors Hisako Oishi, and members of the House of Representatives Hiroshi Sugekawa, Seiichiro Dokyu, Jin Hagiwara and Hiroshi Hamamoto.

The Cambodian delegation had travelled to Japan with the objective of researching the history of Japan’s agricultural development and agricultural policies, as well as paying visits to agricultural producers and the like, in order to encourage Cambodia’s agricultural development. Its members expressed their gratitude for the assistance Cambodia receives from Japan, as well as explaining the efforts being made to rebuild the nation in the wake of the civil war, and stating their desire to use their research visit to contribute to the future economic development of Cambodia.

In response, the various DPJ Diet members said that they hoped to continue with exchanges, and to deepen friendly relations through the activities of the Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League, and the meeting ended on a convivial note.
