Official announcement regarding the result of the DPJ President’s Election of September 14
On September 14, the Chair of the DPJ Central President’s Election Administration Committee, Tadamasa Kodaira issued the following official announcement
The results of the DPJ President’s Election, which took place at the extraordinary party convention held today, are as follows. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to party members and supporters and those concerned with the election, in particular the local election administration officials, for their efforts, and to the public for their understanding and cooperation.
●Votes cast by party members and supporters (postal votes, 1 point for each of 300 single seat constituencies)
Ichiro Ozawa 51 points
Naoto Kan 249 points
●Votes cast by local assembly members (postal votes, 100 points in total, divided using the d’Hondt method of proportional representation)
Ichiro Ozawa 927 votes = 40 points
Naoto Kan 1360 votes = 60 points
(total number of eligible voters 2382)
●Votes cast by Diet members (voting in person, each vote = 2 points)
Ichiro Ozawa 200 votes = 400 points
Naoto Kan 206 votes = 412 points
Invalid votes 3 votes
(total number of eligible voters 411)
●Total number of points
Ichiro Ozawa 491 points
Naoto Kan 721 points
According to these results, Naoto Kan has been elected as the next President of the DPJ.
