On September 21, an India-Japan Forum of Parliamentarians delegation paid a courtesy call to DPJ headquarters. The delegation was received by DPJ members of the House of Representatives Masato Imai, Hiroko Oizumi, Rintaro Ogata, Gaku Kato, Mieko Nakabayashi and Jin Matsubara, and member of the House of Councillors Yoichi Kaneko received the delegation, and discussed a variety of issues.
The leader of the Indian delegation explained about the current political situation in India, and asked questions about Japanese politics.
In response, the DPJ side said that key members of the party executive and the Cabinet members had been decided, and said that they would like to ensure that government takes place in a stable fashion, while engaging in negotiations with the opposition parties. They also stated that they would make continued efforts to deepen economic exchanges between Japan and India.
At the close of the meeting, Matsubara commented that “Japan and India have deep cultural and historical ties, and we would like to continue to place emphasis upon our relationship.”
