DPJ Presidential election to be held on December 25
|
On the afternoon of December 22, the DPJ held a meeting for members of both houses of parliament in Tokyo. Chairman Satsuki Eda of the Central Presidential Election Committee proposed a schedule, procedure and official announcement regarding the DPJ presidential election which was accepted. In addition, special rules and regulations related to the new presidential election were also acknowledged.
As a result, the DPJ officially confirmed the following: On December 25, the DPJ presidential election will take place; on the same day at 9:00 the official announcement for the election will be made; candidates will register from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the party headquarters, and finally, DPJ members of both houses of parliament will gather for a meeting to elect a new President at 2:00 pm in Tokyo.
Prior to this meeting, a discussion related to the general election results and reestablishment of the party was held by all Diet members, candidates of the House of Representatives, and the Secretaries General of local branches.
