Takaki attends meeting with opposition party Diet Affairs Committee Chairs
|
On the afternoon of January 24, nine opposition parties held a meeting of Diet Affairs Committee Chairs in the Diet building, as scheduled during the recent discussions held among the parties’ Secretaries General and Chief Secretary on January 22. The parties in attendance were the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), the Japan Restoration Party, Your Party, the People’s Life Party, the Japanese Communist Party, the Social Democratic Party, Green Wind, the People’s New Party, and the New Renaissance Party.
At the start of the meeting, DPJ Diet Affairs Committee Chair Yoshiaki Takaki declared “Let us further enhance cooperation with one another. Together we can take on the might of the ruling party. We have to make the Diet a platform for substantial discussion and not just a place for empty talk.” The participants agreed with Takaki’s words.
The participants exchanged views about the coming Diet sessions and reached a common understanding on issues such as the securing of sufficient deliberation time and the sharing of information among the opposition parties. Takaki expressed his belief in the importance of regular and timely meetings, and also proposed holding a meeting of the Diet Affairs Committee Chairs between the ruling and opposition parties.
