DPJ establishes strategy HQ following rain damage in Yamaguchi and Shimane

On July 29, the DPJ established a strategy headquarters for heavy rain damage in order to ensure a prompt response is made following the loss of life and physical damage caused by the torrential rainfall that various regions, particularly Yamaguchi and Shimane prefectures, have been experiencing since July 26.

Secretary General Akihiro Ohata, Chair of the strategy headquarters, addressed its first meeting, saying, “I would like to express my sympathy to all the victims of the rains. In this strategy headquarters, we will first confirm the actual state of affairs, and I would like to visit the affected area in Yamaguchi prefecture the day after tomorrow. We will talk with those affected and with local government officials, and based on this we will determine the DPJ’s action proposal and make a representation to the government, with the aim of ensuring that the affected areas can recover from the disaster as soon as possible.”
