Kaieda comments on Lower House dissolution: “DPJ will make this snap election one to bring Japan back on course”

On November 21, DPJ President Banri Kaieda commented to reporters inside the Diet building on the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Kaieda expressed his resolution, saying “Though this dissolution of the Lower House is without just cause, the DPJ will commit to make this snap election an opportunity to prevent Japan from going in the wrong direction, and to securely bring it back on course for the next four years.” Regarding the main issues of the election, Kaieda stated, “One is to question whether the Abe administration’s economic policy, if continued in this manner, will really enrich the nation and enable the economy to achieve sustained and stable economic growth. The DPJ also has to raise the issue of the real nature of the Abe administration that has been revealed by its actions over the past two years, including its recklessness in ignoring constitutionalism, permitting the use of the right to collective self-defense and passing the Act on the Protection of Specially Designated Secrets.”
Kaieda also commented on cooperation efforts amongst opposition parties. He stated that the parties were proceeding with policy discussions in addition to coordinating candidate selection (at electoral district level), saying, “In some policy fields, we have agreed to unite to fight the ruling parties under a common policy banner.”
