Okada pays a courtesy call to Tusk, President of the European Council

On May 29, DPJ President Katsuya Okada paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, during the latter’s visit to Japan.

After the meeting, at his regular press conference Okada told reporters that they exchanged views on the Japan-EU relationship, and referred to his efforts regarding Japan-EU EPA negotiations as Minister for Foreign Affairs, saying, “I worked with the EU to give impetus to the EPA negotiations [which were stalemated at the time] so they could take place properly. There are still some discussions to be completed, but I expressed my hope that [we would be able to reach an agreement] by the end of the year.”

The meeting was also attended by DPJ Executive Office Director-General Yosuke Kondo.
