Okada attends Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony

On August 9, the 70th anniversary of the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, DPJ President Katsuya Okada attended the 70th anniversary peace memorial ceremony for the Nagasaki atomic bomb victims, held in Nagasaki Peace Park. He laid a wreath on behalf of the DPJ, and offered his prayers for the souls of the victims and for everlasting peace around the world.

Following the ceremony, Okada participated in a DPJ meeting organized inside Nagasaki city. He stated, “On this day that the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, I have renewed my determination to work toward the abolition of nuclear weapon. Japan is under a nuclear umbrella, but this is not a desirable state of affairs for human beings, or not at least the ideal state of affairs for our nation. It is our responsibility as the only nation to have suffered from an atomic attack, to trumpet the call for the abolition of nuclear weapons to the rest of the world.”
