Secretary General Hatoyama meets Mongolia's Education, Culture and Science Minister

On the afternoon of February 23, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Hatoyama received Mongolia's Cabinet Minister and Minister for Education, Culture and Science Yondon Otgonbayar and Vice Parliamentary Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament Nyamaa Enkhbold at the Party headquarters, to exchange views.

Hatoyama spoke of his strong sympathy towards Mongolia and expressed his intention to further develop the friendly relations between both countries. After referring to Mongolia's focused efforts in promoting the advancement of science and technology and the visitors' tour of the Tokyo Metropolitan College of Technology, Hatoyama pointed out the importance of technology exchanges between the two countries. He said that Japan's economy is at an important juncture, where it should demonstrate its potential ability to accumulate scientific and technological power and then added that his party (the DPJ) is
determined to achieve a change of government in the next general election and become the governing party.

During the meeting, the Mongolian delegation indicated that the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party plans to strengthen the relations and exchanges with the leading political parties in the region and presented a proposal towards implementing exchanges between party members. DPJ's International Department Director-General Tetsundo Iwakuni said that, as well as the
geographical proximity and the popularity of sumo wrestling, Japan is
interested in Mongolia's growth potential and the approach to environmental issues.

From the DPJ, member of the House of Representatives Issei Koga and members of the House of Councillors Masamitsu Naito, Marutei Tsurunen, Yosihiro Kawakami and Kuniko Tanioka attended the meeting and exchanged views on several topics, including policy planning and electoral reform.
