On September 3, DPJ President Yukio Hatoyama received a courtesy call from the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan, Mikhail Bely, and enjoyed a friendly discussion.
The Ambassador explained that the purpose of his visit was to convey congratulatory messages from President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, and said, “I would like to congratulate you on your overwhelming victory. I feel sure that the Japanese electorate has confidence in the DPJ, and expect to see Japan developing under a DPJ government.”
Following the meeting Hatoyama told reporters: “In order to resolve issues of concern, a relationship of mutual trust is important, and it is vital to meet frequently in order to restore such a relationship of trust.”
