On October 27, Prime Minister (DPJ President) Yukio Hatoyama issued a retraction, via Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano, of instructions given by the Cabinet Secretariat to each ministry to prepare the actual content for his responses in the Diet to questions regarding his policy speech.

Hatoyama stated, “I want to make the responses in my own words as much as I possibly can.” He went on to explain, in response to a reporter’s question, that naturally the task of compiling the basic data upon which responses would be based would be performed by the bureaucrats.

He was asked his feelings upon his household’s move into the Prime Minister’s Residence, scheduled to take place the next day, to which he replied, “It is too large for us,” but went on to say, “I thought that the Prime Minister ought to live in the Prime Minister’s Residence, so that he is able to come to the Prime Minister’s Office immediately in the case of something happening, and so I decided to live there.”
