On March 8, the Director General of the DPJ International Department Yukihisa Fujita received a courtesy call from a bipartisan Cambodian parliamentary delegation, including six politicians, at party headquarters. The meeting was also attended by International Department Vice Director General, member of the House of Councillors Harunobu Yonenaga, and members of the House of Representatives Kazue Fujita, Tetsuo Kutsukake, Naoto Sakaguchi, and Masashige Yoshikawa.
The Cambodian side expressed their appreciation for Japanese efforts to assist with the restoration of World Heritage site Angkor Wat, and called for their future cooperation with this project. They also stated that since 85% of Cambodia was agricultural land, Japan’s assistance with development technology would be indispensable. They also explained about Cambodia’s investment law, and emphasized that increased investment by Japanese investors in Cambodia would lead to the development of the Cambodian nation and economy.
In response, the DPJ side said that they would like to support and cooperate with the restoration of cultural assets and in corporate efforts to spearhead investment in Cambodia and to develop human resources there.
