Kan administration launched, first Cabinet meeting held

On June 8, the first Cabinet meeting of the Kan administration was held at the Prime Minister’s Office following the official ceremonies appointing Naoto Kan as Prime Minister and attesting the appointments of the new Cabinet members, held at the Imperial Palace, and the Kan government was officially launched. Kan became the 94th Prime Minister of Japan, and the 61st to hold that office.
