On June 11, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Edano received a courtesy call from Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Cheng Yonghua, at party headquarters. The two sides agreed to further deepen the friendly relations that had existed between Japan and China since the launch of the DPJ government.
Edano thanked the Ambassador sincerely for paying a visit to the party at such an early stage, and said, “I was responsible for assisting with events when Your Excellency had an audience with the Emperor, and so I feel there is a connection between us.” Cheng commented, “Since the start of the DPJ administration, a friendly relationship has existed between Japan and China” and expressed the desire to strengthen that connection under the new DPJ leadership.
The meeting was also attended by member of the House of Representatives Makiko Kikuta.
