On August 26, the sixth enlarged meeting of the DPJ Policy Research Committee executive was held. The assembled members were briefed on the current economic and fiscal situation by the Cabinet Office and the Bank of Japan, and opinions expressed in each policy subcommittee regarding economic measures and the budget requests for fiscal 2011 were submitted and discussed.

At the start of the meeting, Policy Research Committee Chair Koichiro Gemba once more stated that he had asked each subcommittee to discuss and draw up proposals regarding
economic measures and budgets requests, and said, “In my position as Chair of the Policy Research Committee I have called for active measures to be taken toward the Bank of Japan, due to [my belief] that the main reason for the strong yen is the differing stances taken by the BoJ and the FRB, and I have also continued to emphasise that in terms of fiscal policy, it is extremely important to flesh out the growth strategy.” Gemba added that, having heard the reports from each subcommittee during the meeting, he was scheduled to attend a meeting of Cabinet members with posts relating to economic affairs on the evening of the same day, and would convey the party’s position at that time.
