On September 27, DPJ Administration Committee Chair Makoto Taki met with US-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange Program delegation consisting of seven state and city level lawmakers from the United States, in Japan at the invitation of the Japan Center for International Exchange. The meeting was also attended by the Director-General of the International Department Chinami Nishimura.
Taki first welcomed the delegation to party headquarters. Next, Evan Low, the Mayor of the City of Campbell in California made a speech on behalf of the delegation. He expressed their gratitude to the DPJ side, and after explaining that the members of the delegation came from a variety of backgrounds and were “representative of the diversity of American society”, stressed that as young politicians they hoped to learn many things from their trip to Japan.
Following this, the members of the delegation asked a variety of questions regarding such topics as the political participation of women, foreign affairs and the Japanese political system, and the DPJ side responded courteously to these.
