On November 19, DPJ Secretary General Katsuya Okada received a courtesy call from Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Gombojav Zandanshatar, and exchanged opinions on a variety of issues. The meeting was also attended by Administration Committee Chair Makoto Taki, International Department Director-General Chinami Nishimura, Japan-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship League Secretary-General Koshin Fujitani, and International Department Vice Director-General Naoto Sakaguchi for the DPJ.

At the start of the meeting, Okada expressed his gratitude once again for the hospitality shown to him when he visited Mongolia while serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs on August 30 of this year, saying, “Thank you very much for the kind hospitality you showed me in Mongolia. I remember it as being an extremely enjoyable time.”

Okada also expressed his appreciation for the speech made by Mongolian President Elbegdorj to the Diet on the previous day. He commented, “We are intending to embark on a rapid expansion of the bilateral relationship, based on the past 20 years of history between Japan and Mongolia. The speech made by the President of Mongolia to the Diet is something that makes this clear.”

Zandanshatar responded, “First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for all your efforts toward ensuring that the President’s visit this time would be a success. I would also like to express my thanks for your support with regard to the President’s speech to the Diet yesterday. The President himself also said that he would like me to convey his appreciation in this regard.”
