The Prime Minister’s Office has introduced simultaneous interpretation at messages delivered by the Prime Minister and at press conferences by the Chief Cabinet Secretary, to make it easier for the overseas media to participate in such events. They have also requested NHK to ensure that the Chief Cabinet Secretary’s press conferences and disaster-related news are broadcast with simultaneous interpretation. NHK has agreed to this request and broadcasts with simultaneous interpretation have already been implemented. In addition to ensuring that translations of important information, press conferences etc are posted on the Prime Minister’s Office website, the Prime Minister’s Office is now using Twitter to give timely updates on the situation in English.
