On June 29, the 3rd meeting of the DPJ Brown Bag Lunch (BBL) Special Project “Voices from the World” was held inside the Diet building. The guest speaker was British Ambassador David Warren, who spoke on the theme of “Future Trends in Bilateral Relations”. The meeting was also attended by Minister David Fitton and other Embassy staff. International Department Director-General Chinami Nishimura and BBL Secretary General Kuniko Koda acted as hosts for the meeting.

Former Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Koichi Takemasa gave a welcome address, expressing his gratitude for British assistance following the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. Following this Warren gave a comprehensive overview of the future prospects for relations between Japan and the United Kingdom, which touched upon a number of issues, including the extensive common ground that the two nations share in the realm of foreign relations, and the possibility of creating a deeper relationship in terms of trade and investment. This sparked a number of wide-ranging questions from the assembled Diet members.
