On September 12, Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi received a courtesy call from the Korean Ambassador to Japan, Shin Kak-soo, inside the Diet building.
At the start of the meeting, Shin expressed his congratulations to Koshiishi, saying, “I would like to congratulate you on your appointment as DPJ Secretary General.” He went on to state that he would like to call for Koshiishi’s cooperation in further developing the relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), which had made definite progress since the launch of the DPJ government.
In response, Koshiishi said that Japan and the ROK are neighbouring countries, which have shared a long history of friendly relations, and expressed his intention of making efforts to further develop the bilateral relationship. He also introduced his newly appointed deputy, Acting Secretary General Shinji Tarutoko, who was attending the meeting.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged opinions on how human and cultural exchanges, party-to-party exchanges and economic cooperation could be strengthened in order to further develop the bilateral relationship.
