On October 15, a meeting of executives (Secretaries general and election campaign managers) from DPJ regional branches nationwide was held at a Tokyo venue.

DPJ President, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, took time out of his busy official schedule to attend the opening of the meeting. He made a speech expressing his determination to exert all his strength to ensure that the third supplementary budget for fiscal 2011 is submitted to the Diet and enacted as soon as possible, and the measures it will fund implemented, thereby leading toward substantial reconstruction following the Great East Japan Earthquake, bringing the accident at Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant under control, including achieving a cold shutdown by the end of this year, and measures to deal with the strong yen.

Following this, Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi addressed the gathering, expressing his resolve by saying, “The party executive will support Prime Minister Noda with all our might.” He went on to appeal for grassroots unity from the party at the regional level, stating, “The ruling party should speedily produce results” and “Let’s return to the philosophy of ‘Putting People’s Lives First’ we put forth at the time of the change of government.”
