179th Diet session convened, DPJ Diet members confirm resolve to speedily enact third supplementary budget

On October 20, the 179th extraordinary Diet session was convened, and a meeting of the DPJ Caucus in the House of Representatives was held inside the Diet. The Diet session is scheduled to last 51 days, until December 9.
At the start of the meeting, the Chair of the DPJ Caucus in the House of Representatives Ritsuo Hosokawa called on the assembled Diet members to engage seriously in the forthcoming Diet deliberations, saying, “With debate on the budget for disaster reconstruction, and debate on related legislation taking place, this will be a crucial Diet session for the Noda Cabinet.”
In the final speech of the meeting、Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi stated, “We much enact the third supplementary budget as speedily as possible, and expend all our energy on working out how to help those in the disaster areas who have no hometowns and have been left with nothing but their lives.”
