On October 28, DPJ Secretary-General Azuma Koshiishi was asked by reporters for his impression of Prime Minister Noda’s policy speech. He responded, “What struck me was his reference to the kindergarten children in Fukushima, and saying that he wanted to respond to their desire to “play tag outside soon” and to “collect acorns with [their] friends”. I felt that [the Prime Minister] expressed his strong resolve towards the third supplementary budget, recovery and reconstruction, bringing the nuclear accident under control, and overcoming the economic crisis that began in Greece.” Koshiishi also commented on Noda’s call for the Japanese people to understand the need for implementing tax increases to cover reconstruction, saying, “If we don’t have sources of revenue, then we can’t carry out reconstruction, so we must ask [the people] to bear some kind of burden.”
