On February 2, DPJ Administration Committee Chair Hideo Hiraoka received a courtesy call from Nepali Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha at party headquarters. The meeting was also attended by International Department Vice Directors-General Marutei Tsurunen and Shino Aihara.

At the start of the meeting Hiraoka welcomed Shrestha and stated, “I would like to once more express my appreciation for the warm words of encouragement and the gift of five thousand blankets that we received from the Nepali government and people following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11 last year. The Japanese government has provided various assistance, such as economic cooperation and electoral assistance, to Nepal. The DPJ would like to support the continuation and enhancement of such efforts by the government.”

Shrestha commented, “The people of Nepal have been amazed by the efforts being made toward reconstruction by the government and people of Japan. I am convinced that Japan will soon recover and will also revive economically. Japan and Nepal have an extremely strong and unique relationship. I would like to develop this on a variety of levels.” He also expressed his gratitude for the economic and human cooperation provided by Japan to Nepal.
