On the evening of April 6, DPJ President, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, and the new leader of the People’s New Party, Shozaburo Jimi met at the Prime Minister’s Office and signed an agreement to continue with the coalition government.
The content of the agreement is as follows:
The Democratic Party of Japan and the People’s New Party agree to continue with the coalition government in accordance with the following conditions:
1. The coalition will prioritise recovery and reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and measures to deal with the Fukushima nuclear accident, and make every effort to engage with these issues.
2. The coalition will create peace of mind for the Japanese people by revitalizing the national economy and engaging in social security reform.
3. The coalition will enact the postal services legislation and aim for the early rehabilitation of postal services.
4. In areas where policy adjustment is needed, the two parties will hold discussions in good faith.
