On the afternoon of April 22, a meeting of secretaries-general and chairmen of the election campaign committees of DPJ local branches was held in Tokyo. At the start of the meeting, DPJ Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi stated, “Today and at this meeting the DPJ regains its strength and spark for politics that prioritize ‘Putting People’s Lives First.’” After Koshiishi’s speech, DPJ party activities and future issues were reported. Acting Secretary General Shinji Tarutoko talked about “issues on enhancing local organizations,” Diet Affairs Committee Chair Koriki Jojima spoke of “steering the Diet,” and Public Relation Committee Chair Chiaki Takahashi presented on “activities of Public Relation Committee.”

DPJ President Yoshihiko Noda was present at a convivial gathering after the meeting, invigorating the participants from the local headquarters.

That same day, over 100 officers from DPJ local branches who are specialized in policy research also assembled and held a conference at party headquarters. At the start of the meeting, Seiji Maehara, Chair of the DPJ Policy Research Committee, expressed his perspective on imperative political issues such as the social security system and taxation. DPJ local officers actively discussed various issues, including the integrated social security and tax reform, political and administrative reform, the concept of local administration, “Child Allowance” and “Child Support Allowance,” energy, and the valuation of the DPJ Manifesto.
