Three parties agree to hold talks about amending the legislation on the comprehensive reform of social security and taxation system

On the afternoon of June 6, Secretaries General of the Democratic Party of Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito held the inter-party discussion inside the Diet building. Regarding the future talks on the amendment of the legislation, DPJ Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi called for cooperation from the LDP and New Komeito once again by saying, “In order to enact legislation at the earliest stage, I would like to improve upon the environment so that it will enable us to hold talks even from today about amending the legislation.”

On the following day, the three parties held the inter-party discussion and agreed to hold talks about amending the legislation on the comprehensive reform of social security and the taxation system.

After the discussion, Koshiishi told reporters that today’s discussion was conducted through approaches made by the LDP and New Komeito, and he also presented that each party decided who will be involved in the talks. From the DPJ, the following were appointed as members for talks:

Social Security: Ritsuo Hosokawa, Chair, Comprehensive Social Security and Taxation Reform Research Committee; and Akira Nagatsuma, Secretary General, Comprehensive Social Security and Taxation Reform Research Committee

Tax: Hirohisa Fujii, Chair, Tax System Research Committee; and Shinichiro Furumoto, Secretary General, Tax System Research Committee

Executive General Manager: Seiji Maehara, Chair, Policy Research Committee
