On the morning of June 12, DPJ Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi (Chair of the Japan-China “Exchange and Discussion Mechanism”) received a courtesy call from the Vice Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Zhang Zhijun.
At the start of the meeting, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang said, “We were able to exchange opinions frankly during the Japan-China “Exchange and Discussion Mechanism” held last March, and as such we achieved fruitful results. It is important for the political parties of our two countries to communicate, especially when problems arise.”
Koshiishi greeted the Chinese delegation and expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome offered to the DPJ delegation while in China. He commented, “Japan-China relations are facing an important year. It is especially when misunderstandings related to the friendly emotions held by our countries’ citizens occur that we must bring our hearts together and work together.”
The two frankly exchanged opinions regarding the Japan-China Strategic Dialogue that took place the previous day as well as the comprehensive reform of social security and taxation systems.
The meeting was also attended by Acting Secretary General Shinji Tarutoko, Administration Committee Chair Hideo Hiraoka, Director-General of the International Department Issei Tajima and Vice Directors-General of the International Department, Shinkun Haku and Shino Aihara.
