On June 19, the DPJ decided to establish the “downpour disaster response headquarters” (provisional translation) as a result of forecasts calling for a powerful typhoon that was expected to bring severe storms nationwide and to cause floods or landslides. The headquarters will be committed to learning about and responding to damage caused by disasters. DPJ Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi will chair the headquarters.
On the same day, the DPJ also decided to establish the “power-saving headquarters” (provisional translation) in order to promote the activities of the party that are necessary to efficiently achieve in cooperation with the government the power-saving targets which were set according to the supply-and-demand estimate of this summer. The headquarters will engage in hearing about the government’s approach, arranging requests or suggestions for the government’s approach, and supporting power-saving activities by local branches. DPJ Acting Secretary General Shinji Tarutoko will chair the headquarters.
