On July 9, International Department Director-General Issei Tajima received a courtesy call from the bipartisan delegation of young politicians from Myanmar (also known as Burma) and exchanged views. The delegation was visiting Japan under the auspices of the JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) program. JENESYS was established in 2007 by the Japanese government with a 5-year mandate to invite around 6000 youths from various Asian countries to Japan each year to promote mutual understanding and friendship. The meeting was also attended by International Department Vice Directors-General Marutei Turunen, Shinkun Haku, and Misako Yasui. Both sides had a lively discussion on the issues regarding the political system of Japan and the future of the two countries, and the meeting ended in a convivial mood.
