On July 10, Administration Committee Chair Hideo Hiraoka received a courtesy call from UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) Associate Administrator Rebeca Grynspan, during which they exchanged views. The meeting was also attended by Akiko Yuge, who serves as both UNDP Tokyo Office Director and Special Advisor to UNDP Administrator Helen Clark and the other UNDP officers.

Grynspan expressed her gratitude, stating “We deeply appreciate that the Government of Japan, and your party, have made huge financial contributions even in the severe situation of having to face financial difficulties after the earthquake and tsunami last year. I know it’s not easy to have a political leadership to maintain ODA commitments. We hope that the leader of other countries do the same thing as Japan.”

Both sides exchanged views on the results of the July 8 “Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan” and the current situation of the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) and TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development), and agreed to continue to cooperate with each other.
