On August 5, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda visited Okayama City to inspect the factory of Nakashima Medical Co., Ltd., a medical-device manufacturer that creates artificial joints which can be customized to fit the skeleton of each patient.

During a Cabinet Meeting in July, the Noda administration approved the Strategy for the Rebirth of Japan, which aims to achieve 3% nominal growth (2% real growth) in the growing industries of medical services, environment, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. PM Noda undertook the inspection of the medical-device manufacturer in order to gain a better understand of the current situations of these growing industries. During the inspection, he received a briefing on the factory’s work, handled and examined models of artificial joints, and took a close look at manufacturing processes such as polishing. He was accompanied on the visit by Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Yoshio Tezuka and Members of the House of Representatives Keisuke Tsumura (Okayama District No.2) and Hiroki Hanasaki (Okayama District No.5) from the Democratic Party of Japan.
