On August 9, the 67th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, DPJ President and Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Victims Memorial Peace Prayer Ceremony. PM Noda prayed for the repose of the souls of atomic bomb victims, expressed his heartfelt sympathy for those still suffering from the aftereffects of the atomic bomb, and declared his determination to realize the abolition of nuclear weapons and eternal world peace. In order to enhance international momentum toward education on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, PM Noda highlighted how important it is to pass on the memories of the atomic bomb to future generations, touching upon the Global Forum on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education to be held on August 10 and 11 in Nagasaki City (sponsored by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and United Nations University, cooperated by Nagasaki City and Nagasaki University).
