Koshiishi criticized censure motion against PM Noda

On August 29, asked by press about the censure motion against the Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda which was approved by a plenary session of the House of Councillors, Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi commented “Although I myself have voted to issue a censure motion during my 22 years of service in both Houses, there have been no censure motions more unreasonable than the motion this time. This is my first impression. Here is the reason for the motion. It shows that seven parties (which submitted the motion) are obviously opposing any tax increase, and cannot accept the operation of the Diet sessions based on the three-party agreement among the Democratic Party of Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and New Komeito. The censure motion was issued for these two reasons. Therefore, I cannot understand why the LDP voted for such a motion. In contrast, New Komeito responded in a sensible manner.”

Koshiishi also stated “The Diet sessions last until September 8. We will make further efforts to call for cooperation of the opposition parties” regarding actions to pass a proposal for issuing new government bonds and to obtain approval for personnel measures during the remaining Diet sessions.
