On the afternoon of November 6, the DPJ Political Reform Promotion Headquarters (Chaired by Acting Secretary General Jun Azumi) held a meeting of the executive members and discussed its future direction in the Diet building.

DPJ Senior Vice Secretary General Seiji Osaka, who serves as the Director General of the headquarters, summarized the deliberations on political reform of the House of Representatives between the ruling and opposition parties since November 2011. After the briefing, the participants exchanged their views and determined the following three principles: (1) The DPJ will not change its stance on implementing the “0 more, 5 less” amendment for single-seat constituencies and the reduction of proportional representation seats; (2) The headquarters will hold a general meeting to seek the opinions of the other DPJ Diet members regarding the basic policies mentioned previously; and (3) The headquarters will propose the elimination of position allowances for the Diet committee chairs, as part of Diet reforms, in view of the severe financial situation.
