On the morning of December 12, following the situation in which North Korea pressed ahead with the launch of a missile which it calls a “satellite,” Secretary General Azuma Koshiishi said to the press, “The launch is an intolerable act that undermines the peace and stability of Japan and the rest of the East Asian region, and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Koshiishi explained the DPJ’s response, stating, “A moment ago, there was a briefing from the Government. The missile launch that the North Korean authorities pressed ahead with is an intolerable act that undermines the peace and stability of Japan and the rest of the East Asian region, and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The DPJ have requested that the Government notify North Korea of Japan’s intention to launch a strong protest. In light also of the Presidential Statement of the (United Nations) Security Council, we have requested that the Government take a resolute response and appeal to the international community.”
In addition, he informed the press that while the candidates in the House of Representatives general election were instructed to temporarily suspend their campaign activities across the nation, and that campaign activities have been resumed as relevant information was confirmed from the press conference given by Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura at 10:21 am.
