Three party talks held to resume deliberations on the comprehensive social security and tax reforms

On the evening of January 16, Policy Research Committee Chair Mitsuru Sakurai attended a meeting with the policy research committee chairs of the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito. The three chairs held deliberations aimed at resuming working-level consultations for the comprehensive reform of the social security and taxation systems in accordance with the three-party agreement.

The members of the working-level consultations were decided at the meeting, with the Democratic Party of Japan appointing the following Diet members:

Members in charge of social security
Akira Nagatsuma (R), Chair, Comprehensive Social Security and Taxation Reform Research Committee
Kazunori Yamanoi (R)
Satoshi Umemura (C)
Members in charge of taxation systems
Takeaki Matsumoto (R), Chair, Tax System Research Committee
Shinichiro Furumoto (R), Secretary General, Tax System Research Committee

The working-level consultation for taxation systems held its first meeting on the same day. The three policy research committee chairs confirmed that they will leave it up to the members of the working-level consultation for social security to decide the frequency of the meetings and the issues to be discussed.

*"R" indicates that he/she is a member of the House of Representatives.
*"C" indicates that he/she is a member of the House of Councillors.
