At a plenary session of the House of Councillors on January 31, DPJ Vice President Tomiko Okazaki questioned Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on behalf of the DPJ-Shinryokufukai group regarding the inaugural policy speech on January 28.
Okazaki urged Prime Minister Abe to offer clear explanations on the following issues: (1) the economic policies of the Abe administration; (2) social inclusion projects such as measures to prevent suicide; (3) measures to ensure sufficient employment; (4) the influence of lowering the standards of public assistance for low-income households, and countermeasures related to this; (5) gender equality; (6) child and child-rearing support measures; (7) the concept of making high school tuition free; (8) the review on measures for intractable diseases; (9) energy policies; (10) the concept of local sovereignty; (11) the comprehensive ‘subsidies with strings attached’; (12) the right to collective self-defense; and (13) the further enhancement of measures for reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Okazaki who has worked hard as a House member from Miyagi Prefecture for the restoration and recovery of the affected areas by maintaining close communication with local people, emphasized the need to enhance support for the affected areas, including measures for workforces in local municipalities. Okazaki stressed, “There is no difference between the ruling and opposition parties in terms of wanting to promote reconstruction.”
