DPJ Abduction Issue Strategy Headquarters reestablished

On February 5, the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) decided to reestablish the DPJ Abduction Issue Strategy Headquarters and reported the decision at the 575th meeting of the Standing Officers Council. The headquarters listed the following two items as its immediate objectives: (1) to promote activities to rescue abduction victims by building cooperative relationships with the related domestic or international NGOs; (2) to inform people all over the world that the issue of the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea is a serious encroachment of national sovereignty and human rights, and to gain the understanding of the international community, in cooperation with countries who have experienced the same problem. Member of the House of Representatives Shu Watanabe (Next Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission, Next Minister for the Abduction Issue, Next Minister for Disaster Management) was assigned as the chair of the headquarters.
