On October 31, DPJ President Banri Kaieda met with the leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP), Stefan Löfven, at party headquarters during the latter’s recent visit to Japan.

At the start of the meeting, Kaieda welcomed the Swedish delegation, and said “I hope that you will gain certain victory in the general election scheduled to take place in Sweden next year.” He went on to say that he would like to talk about ways of enhancing the social security system in Japan, saying “we have used the Swedish system as a reference point.”

Löfven commented, “We are certainly hoping that there will be a change of government in the general election next year. We are concerned with the Swedish economy and in particular we feel we must improve employment.” He asked the DPJ’s position regarding Japan’s employment conditions and Abenomics.
