On June 4, a meeting of Café Democrats, the exchange and discussion forum organized by the DPJ for the diplomatic community in Tokyo, was held at party headquarters.
At the start of the meeting, DPJ President Banri Kaieda discussed the various issues that would be the focus of the closing stage of the Diet session, stating that in addition to the right of collective self-defence, the disclosure of information related to the TPP negotiations, enhancement of the social security system, proposed revisions that would worsen the worker dispatch law, and the creation of check mechanisms in the Diet for the special secrets protection law were also key issues. He commented, “We truly have numerous issues to deal with. I would like our party to make even more effort in the Diet debate during the remaining days [of the session].”
Following this, Motohiro Oono, Secretary General of the party’s General Research Commission on Security and Vice Director-General of the International Department, made presentation introducing the current state of the debate over the exercise of the right to collective self-defence.
International Department Director-General Kaname Tajima acted as moderator for the meeting, which was also attended by Secretary General Akihiro Ohata, and International Department Vice Director-Generals Michihiro Ishibashi, and Misako Yasui.
