On June 3, a meeting of the DPJ’s Next Cabinet approved the mid-term report of the party’s General Research Commission on Energy.
The Chair of the General Research Commission, Masayuki Naoshima held a press conference in which he reaffirmed the three basic pillars of the DPJ’s energy policy targets detailed in the ‘Innovative Strategy for Energy and the Environment’ (approved by the Cabinet on September 14 2012 during the DPJ’s time in office), that is “Realization of a society not dependent on nuclear power at the earliest possible stage”, “Realization of green energy revolution” and “Ensuring stable supply of energy”. Naoshima went on to outline the contents of the mid-term report, stating that in order to achieve the aforementioned three policy goals, the DPJ would proceed with comprehensive revision of the related legal system, aiming to achieve: (1) thorough energy-saving measures, (2) full use of heat technologies, (3) expanding the introduction of renewable energy, and (4) creating highly efficient fossil fuel stations.
