On September 12, DPJ President Banri Kaieda met with H.E. Mr. Thanatip Upatising, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Japan, at party headquarters.

Ambassador Upatising gave an explanation of recent political and economic developments in Thailand, stretching from May’s coup d’état to the establishment of an interim government, commenting, “Japan and Thailand have a long friendly relationship. Thailand will hereafter make the transition to full democracy through a general election scheduled to be held in October, 2015, under the auspices of the interim government. We would like to urge Japan to continue with its support.”

In response, Kaieda stated, “Only once political stability has been achieved can economic ties between our two countries be strengthened. The DPJ would like to boost political and economic relationships with Asian countries, especially ASEAN members. It is my desire that Thailand will make a speedy transformation to a new democratic state that is supported by the majority of its people.”

The meeting was also attended by Kaname Tajima, Director-General of the DPJ International Department.
