On March 6, DPJ President Katsuya Okada held his regular press conference at party headquarters.

At the opening of the presser, Okada apologized for his absence from the party convention. He also stated that he was recovering well from an operation for the recurrence of his retinal detachment, and would be careful to avoid a further recurrence.

Okada urged Prime Minister Abe to hold a Question Time session as soon as possible and expressed his willingness to discuss issues such as security legislation, the statement to be made on the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, and historical recognition.

Okada also commented on media reports citing issues relating to the Political Funds Control Law. He apologized for receiving a donation that was regulated by the Law and explained he had already returned it to the company in question. He added that he had also returned other similar donations even though it was not clear whether they were actually prohibited under the legislation. He expressed the opinion that a variety of steps needed to be taken to prevent such cases recurring and suggested that one issue to consider would be revision of the Political Funds Control Law itself.
At the end of the press conference, Okada disclosed that he would be meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on May 10.
